I do get it that a lot of companies are jumping on the plus size band wagon. I know Delia’s has plus size and some other stores as well. There are top name designers who are now catering to plus sizes up to a size 24 and there are several plus size chains and web-based companies who are exclusively plus size. However, I would like to talk about Forever21′s plus size collection. Forever 21 carries their Faith21 line in select locations and I just happen to live about an hour away from the Holyoke, MA location so I took a drive down about two weeks ago. They have a very limited size range which goes from 1x-3x and those sizes would approximately fit size 14/16- 18/20 (size 20 is pushing it). Over the years I have run the gammut of clothing sizes from 14-28 so I can look at something and know if it’s going to fit me or not, regardless of the size that is on the label.
First of all, I walked into the store which did seem to have a good number of employees yet nobody ever greeted me upon entering the location nor did anyone at any time come up to me and ask me if I needed any assistance in finding anything or if I was looking for something special. I was left to my own devices. It is a very nice store, very large and I can see how people could possibly get overlooked. However, I did observe an employee who was busy folding clothes while he was busy flirting with a guy who was in there chatting up a storm with him!
So if you are on the bottom end of the plus size scale you should have no problem squeezing your fat butt into their clothing as long as you like helping yourself when you go shopping there. I mean for that matter you could just shop online where nobody helps you anyway, at least online you kind of expect it and you know that your money is not getting spent on someone who gets paid to flirt. I don’t know that’s just me. This is just my experience that I had in one store and was disappointed with the whole thing. If stores want to truly cater to plus sizes, they should understand what the plus size market is comprised of. But I fully understand that they are just not ready to have an army of fatties in their stores wearing their clothing. I guess companies are willing to forgo the green when it comes to who wears their stuff.
I am not saying that I should not have to lose weight or anything, however I am the size I am right now and right now I am looking to find the best clothes I can to put myself in the best possible light. The bottom line is Faith21 does not allow me to do that with their clothes so I have to continue to shop elsewhere.
